Why Attend Pump School
Manure application is a specialized industry, and new employees often face a steep learning curve. It's rare for someone to come in with all the knowledge and skills they need to be immediately successful. Efficiency in dragline operations stems from experience and understanding of the job. For more than a decade, Puck has shared our knowledge and years of experience with other industry professionals at Pump School. Puck’s Pump School helps attendees understand industry standards to help prepare for the future of manure application.
Breakouts & Safety
Puck's two day informational session includes both larger, in class sessions and breakout meetings for smaller groups. The breakout sessions offered are different with every Pump School session. Designed to be a more personal learning experience, crew members at different stages of their pump carers can benefit from the breakout sessions. These breakout sessions may include pump teardowns and rebuilds, interactive hose layouts, and more.
Attendees can pick the breakout session they wish to take part in each day. However, organizers typically separate sessions by crew roles or levels of experience. Managers and owners are offered more discussion topics to talk with other companies, as well as learn practical business tips to improve operational efficiency. Every attendee learns about friction loss and pump curves. This knowledge is vital to better understanding the job and becoming more efficient. Pump School emphasizes safety at every stage of learning, regardless of experience level. Crew members are taught the safety risks of each job in the application line, from agitation to pigging the line to packing up for transport at the end of the day.
In-Depth Learning Opportunities
Through classroom sessions and hands-on learning opportunities, Pump School attendees talk with Puck’s experts and other crews about the industry and equipment used. Classroom sessions help pumpers understand the importance of using the right horsepower with the right pump, the proper hoses for equipment, the correct tillage for your operation, and more. In-depth sessions help custom applicators gain a better understanding of Puck equipment. Additionally, sessions explain how to operate Puck products for the best efficiency, such as the LightSpeed control system. At the end of the first day, guests can tour Puck’s manufacturing facility here in Manning.
Puck’s Pump School is free to attend. Puck holds Pump School in the summer and winter to prepare for the upcoming pumping season.
