Devin Melby | National Welding Month
Since 1996, the American Welding Society has declared April to be National Welding Month. This designation is to bring awareness to the career of welding and the opportunities the career offers. To celebrate National Welding Month this year, Puck welders were asked why they enjoy their welding job.
Devin Melby began working at Puck when he was 17 and still in high school as a summer job. Since graduating, he has become a full-time employee at Puck. “I was one of the first people to go through the Fab training program with John Martin, the Fabrication Training Lead,” said Devin. This training program was created to give new employees with less welding experience the opportunity to learn from an experienced professional.
“I feel as if I learned a lot of skills,” said Devin, “like welding pipe and being a more consistent welder.” New employees are given extensive training on the job, but this wasn’t Devin’s first interaction with welding. Prior to his job at Puck, his path in welding began at IGNITE Pathways. Devin had enough experience with welding to know that he would like to pursue it as a career right out of high school.
Puck is constantly innovating our products and systems, which often gives welders a new project to master. “My favorite equipment to work on is the TTR15P. It’s pretty cool to be on something new like that at the age I am.” To learn more about Puck welders, check out our Facebook page for features and videos.
