Wikner Custom Pumping Testimonial

Following the end of their first full year operating a custom manure dragline system, the crew of Wikner Custom Pumping was excited to attend Pump School at Puck. The Wikner crew has been to Pump School before, but with experience under their belt, they’re excited to get more in-depth knowledge and talk to experts. Wikner runs one hose line in Northeast Iowa and applied 24 million gallons in their first season. Wikner’s five-man crew runs an O system with flow rates between 2,500-3000 gallons per minute.

Equipment

When Ben Wikner, owner and operator of Wikner Custom Pumping, first began his business, he knew he could rely on Puck equipment. “They’re custom operators, so I know all their equipment is going to be tested,” said Ben. “It’s made by custom operators, for custom operators.” The window of time to put manure in the ground can be limited each season. To complete custom pumping jobs in a timely manner, Ben knew he needed reliable equipment. “I need equipment that’s gonna work for me every day. Working with Puck has helped me achieve those goals of customer satisfaction.”

Pump School

Although this is Wikner’s first year running a dragline system, this is not their first time at Puck’s Pump School. Ben has been to both Farley and Manning Pump School sessions but was excited to come back now with more pumping experience. The crew always enjoys learning tricks of the trade and learning how they can become more efficient. Pump School has classroom sessions that benefit every crew member, and it also has breakout sessions based on skill levels. While owners and operators like Ben Wikner attended open discussions and innovation tanks about the future of pumping, his crew was watching a pump teardown and rebuild, learning hose laying techniques, and more. Every attendee was given a lesson in friction loss, pump curves, and safety, as well as LightSpeed.

LightSpeed

LightSpeed played a significant role in Wikner’s decision to use Puck equipment. “When we started pricing out our system, we were looking at more of a simple approach, more labor vs technology,” said Ben. Puck’s sales team member Phil Brown sat down with him to explain how LightSpeed can help his operation get more gallons through the hose to better serve customers. Ben used that information to get the money he needed to buy equipment. Following a successful year, Ben is glad that he doesn’t have to seek more funding to support business growth. “After the first year, I don’t have to upgrade anything, we’re just ready for spring pumping. That’s huge to a starting business.”

Wikner Custom Pumping continues to choose Puck because it’s the most efficient and reliable system for their new business. “Our motto is to get the right gallons on the right acre at the right time, and I feel like Puck helps me achieve that.” Ben and his crew enjoyed their fourth Pump School in January.
