Puck Welders Make the Most of Their Resources
Throughout the month of April, Puck is celebrating National Welding Month. Established in 1996, this month raises awareness for the trade and gives us an opportunity to thank our welders. Puck’s welding team stays busy, consuming enough welding wire in 2023 to cover the distance between Manning, Iowa and Nashville, Tennessee.
Some welding jobs at Puck are larger than others. A large batch of hose pinchers may take little time to complete, but larger pieces of equipment could take multiple days of work. Fabrication tech Kamden Robinson spoke on recently began working on the fabrication of a manure injection vehicle. “Right now, I’m working on the driver’s side wing of the toolbar,” said Kamden. “This is a 12-hour job, I’m on the first hour of it right now, I’m really excited to see it completed.”
Puck’s Fabrication Department uses over 22,700 lbs of welding wire a year to manufacture our products. “Some of the things I like about working here is all the different material we use,” noted Josh Boever. In a single year, Puck goes through more than 23,500 feet of shape steel and over 114,000 feet of flat steel. “One of the things I like building is pipework,” said Josh. Puck utilizes more than 10 miles of tube steel in a year. A single TTR 30 requires 606 feet of that tube steel.
The large variety of Puck products gives a new challenge to our welders every week. “I’m working on a rear end for a John Deere Ripper toolbar,” said Dustin Martz. “I like all the welding that it has on it.” With more than 28,000 parts in our system and more than 1,500 part movements in a day, our team stays busy. To balance the workload, Puck not only focuses on innovation, but also puts an emphasis on teamwork and enjoyment. “In addition to the job itself, I really like the atmosphere here as well,” said Dustin.
Puck’s Fabrication Department and their flexibility with new projects is a vital factor to Puck’s success. Thank you to all our welders who made our industry-leading innovation a reality. Learn more about our production teams and get a behind-the-scenes look by following us on social media.
