Pigging Steps to Drain Your Fire Hose Line
After using large diameter hose for your supply line, the excess water left in the fire supply hose can be heavy. The leftover water can also increase the risk of damaging your hose and shortening its service life. Puck Fire’s Pigging System can drain the water left in the hose and make cleanup on the fire scene easy and efficient. Instead of breaking down the couplers and lifting heavy hose, your crew can shoot the pigging balls or bullets through the hose with an air compressor and air hose.
Step 1

Open the bleeder valve on your pig launcher to ensure there is no residual pressure in the line. This is an important step for the safety of your firefighting crew, as the pressurized air can have dangerous results when opening the line. Even with the knife gate closed, movement of the gate can cause pressure in the launcher cavity.
Every Puck pump comes with a built-in pig shooter for purging the line. If you are not using a Puck Fire Force Feed Trailer or Truck, the U.S. Coupling Pig Launcher Manifold can be customized to meet your needs. This manifold has a pressure relief valve built-in to ensure full control and safety.
Step 2

Remove the launcher’s cap before placing the foam pigging ball or bullet into the launcher. The foam pig should be larger in diameter than the pipework and hose line, so it may require some extra maneuvering to force it into the launcher. Reassemble the cap and ensure it is on securely.
Step 3

Connect your air hose to the launcher. BullDog’s Air Raid is a lay-flat air hose that easily packs up to be stored in your equipment. Air Raid’s 2” four claw Chicago air fitting connection comes standard with a double bolt collar for easy change outs.
Step 4

Ensure the Pig Catcher is connected to the end of your large diameter fire hose line. The Storz connections make it easy to attach on the scene. If you are using a manifold, ensure all other gates are closed and leave only the Pig Catcher open.
Step 5

Turn on your air compressor and wait for the foam purging ball or bullet to enter the cage at the end of the line. While the pigging system is draining the supply line, your crew can inspect the hose for any damages and prepare it for retrieval.
