Upgrades to the FF 5770 Improve Efficiency

Looking to push innovation in pumping, Puck reached out to custom manure applicators across the country to help eliminate common pain points in their job. Using the collective knowledge of experienced applicators and their feedback, we’ve redesigned a versatile lead pump to be even more efficient. Puck’s Tandem Axle Force Feed 5770 Trailer has advanced its capabilities with years of research, engineering design, and testing to support its new features. Of course, the FF 5770 has kept the key components that make the pump trailer with a 45 foot hydraulic boom an industry leading pump.

In the world of custom manure application, there are three ways to increase your profit; increase flow rates, increase the rates you charge, or improve your efficiency. The upgrades to the new Force Feed Trailer design are intended to improve operational efficiency on the job by significantly reducing downtime around the pump. The redesign also reduces potential human errors to keep the job moving and keep the pump unit out of the service shop. The new FF 5770 is designed for quick deployment, decreasing downtime waiting on fluid temperatures and hydraulics.

Design Based on Feedback

Planning the updates to the trailer began with conversations with Force Feed users from across geographical regions and operation sizes. The broad representation of real-world use cases helped ensure that the Force Feed upgrades would be beneficial to a majority of operations. Feedback on the trailer started in one-on-one conversations with customers. Individual discussions dug deep into specific pain points and everyday operational performance. Puck Engineers also included the feedback from curated group settings. These discussions had Force Feed users comparing experiences with the equipment and validating common challenges.

Once the high-priority inefficiencies were identified and supported by consensus, Puck Engineers got to work on design updates and incorporating improvements. The most common challenges Force Feed users faced had the same general themes; the need to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, simplify operation, and increase durability in high-use conditions. Additionally, improving the speed and responsiveness of certain systems, simplifying maintenance, and better operator control/visibility came up repeatedly.

New Features

Performance Improvements
  • An enhanced LightSpeed display provides intuitive controls for lighting, inlet selection, and outrigger operation, with feedback pages for diagnostics and remote service capabilities.
  • Redesigned hydraulics to prevent drift and increase deployment speeds.
  • Innovative dynamic horsepower controls to deliver the flow where you need it most and provide better fuel efficiency.
  • Field tests demonstrated the new system's agitation capacity compared to previous pumps, maintaining high flow rates with reduced inlet pressures even during simultaneous agitation and pumping.
Reliability and Durability Upgrades
  • Electric brakes are standard with an option for air brakes based on your operations needs.
  • Redesigned chassis for more durability and better towability.
  • Advanced heat dissipation and reduced contamination issues.
  • Improved corrosion resistance with plated-steel hydraulic lines.
  • A hydraulically controlled tertiary latch interlocks with the secondary boom to prevent bounce and damage during transport.
  • The pit level sender has been repositioned for better protection and cleaning.
  • The outflow is now vertical with a victaulic split clamp for secure sealing, and the flow meter uses a 4-20mA output for more stable readings.
Operator Experience Improvements
  • A new multi-function belly pack remote allows simultaneous control of up to six functions, with manual overrides in case of module failure.
  • Almost two extra feet of deck space was added for additional room for accessories and storage.
  • A new power-down sequence and battery management system to mitigate potential human error.
  • Solutions-based redesign to the hydraulic system to eliminate common pain points.
  • Factory-designed upgrade options to tailor the unit to meet your specific needs.
Serviceability Enhancements
  • Maintenance is made easier with a single drop-in hydraulic filter with a digital charge indicator, improved reservoir design, and easier access to service points.
  • Bolt-on components make replacement easy.
  • Advanced Cat engine diagnostics and service capabilities.
