Puck Packs the Pantry

Puck enjoys coordinating activities each month to show appreciation and create camaraderie among our employees. Receptionist. Sydney Macumber, pitched the idea of employees “sharing the love” this February. Over a two-week period, Puck challenged its Manning employees to bring in non-perishable items for the local food pantry. The Manning Food Pantry is a community initiative that serves individuals and families in need.

Kari Nuzback, Human Resources Manager, said “As a rural community, we know our schools, churches and other local affiliations have awareness of the many community members that have less than enough resources, so it was important for us to fill a need as a team.” Employees were divided into three teams, based on department, for a friendly competition to see which team could bring in the most items. Tables were set up in the front office lobby so everyone could see who was in the lead throughout the competition.

The goal of our “Puck Packs the Pantry” event was to collect 300 non-perishable items to donate to the Manning Food Pantry. “Our team showed up in a big way,” said Kari. “The tables were full and then we all were surprised when Elissa Riesberg from our Accounting department took her efforts to another level. She threw on a blow-up cow suit and walked around the shop encouraging employees from her team to donate! Of course, her team took the win!”

Elissa’s last-minute effort to rally her team didn’t go to waste! In addition to her own team winning, Puck Packs the Pantry tripled our original goal of 300 items. Puck employees collected 925 non-perishable items for donation and $325 to give to the food pantry. The winning team included the departments of Accounting, Fabrication, Application, and Business Development/ IT.

“Last month the food pantry served over 20 local families in need,” said Kari. “It feels really good to put out a call to action to our employees and watch them selflessly show up in such a big way. It speaks to the culture here, that not only do we have each other’s back, we have a stranger’s too.”

Puck Enterprises takes pride in giving back to the community and helping small towns flourish. Read through our other blogs to learn about different community projects Puck has taken part of.

The competition was close! In the end, the cash and food donations on the final day pushed the Green Team into the lead.
