Puck Featured at the FFA State Leadership Conference
Puck Enterprises is a proud supporter of community initiatives. Hosting the annual National Ag Day event for high school students is one of these exciting community involvement events. This event shows students a different side of the agricultural industry and the careers available in the area. This year, students of the IKM-Manning FFA program created a display for the FFA State Leadership Conference about Puck’s National Ag Day.
The prompt for the display was to present an event or activity that your FFA chapter is involved in every year. “We chose Puck’s Ag Day because we’ve attended the last three years,” said Hollie Blum, IKM-Manning senior and FFA member. Fellow senior and FFA chapter member Alexis Gruhn agreed. “Also because it’s a great way to show our younger members the job opportunities available in our area that are in the agriculture industry beyond just farming.”
This year’s State Leadership Conference was memorable for IKM-Manning’s FFA chapter. “It was my second year going and Hollie’s third year attending,” said Alexis. “Overall, we got to meet lots of new people and see lots of new things.” The students had seen Puck display their toys at Ag Day in the past, which they knew could be a good addition to their FFA State Leadership Conference submission.
IKM-Manning Chapter Success in 2024
The chapter set up their display upon arrival at the three day event in Ames. On the final day of the event, chapter display ratings were announced. “We found out we got a Silver rating,” recalled Hollie. “That’s pretty good for us. It was our first time ever bringing a chapter display from our FFA chapter.”
In addition to hosting the National Ag Day event, Puck gives back to the local school and FFA program regularly. This spring, Puck gifted $5,000 to the IKM-Manning High School FFA program, which is building a greenhouse to further the students’ education. From laying concrete to the final touches, Hollie said FFA students had a hand in every step of building this structure. “We’ve been really involved in helping to make sure this greenhouse is built. We’re hoping it will be ready to use before the next school year.”
“This has been a really big project for our school. Our last greenhouse was not very suitable for our needs,” added Alexis. “For the upcoming students, it will be pretty convenient. They will get to learn more about flowers and plants and all the things they can grow.” Learn more about Puck’s annual National Ag Day event on our Facebook page.
